CrowdSourced stuff of the week

Here are two projects I think you should back and why:

1) Schaffer T. Darklord’s new album on Indiegogo (http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/schaffer-the-darklord-s-new-album-sp)

It’s Schaffer T. Darklord. A little love for the geek rap? Besides ever since he covered Jay Z dressed as the Joker at that cancer benefit … what’s not to like? And he’s not even asking for a lot of money.

2) “The Last Original Screenplay” by Mario Joyner on Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/497330986/the-last-original-screenplay)

Ok, there’s not a lot of time left for this one, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to make it unless there’s a huge swell in the last week … seeing as I have no audience yet I don’t know how much help I can really be, but what the hell right? This is a good idea at it’s core. And Joyner is a genuinely funny guy. The story he’s trying to tell is reminiscent of Idiocracy, and I think it’s a worthy idea. He’s got a point … remakes, re-imaginings and even stories unnecessarily using existing properties to tell new stories just to maintain merch sales is ruining the entertainment industry in a lot of ways. Now, the truth is that’s got more to do with licensing, copyright, trademarks, and marketing than anything else, but he’s got a point with the effect all this re-making may be having on originality. So I for one would like to see how his story plays out.

And here’s something I think you should support that doesn’t cost anything:

Phonebloks

I mean … I’m not an engineer and I don’t even know if that’s possible. But I would buy the hell out of that. If you would too, go ahead and join the campaign. It doesn’t cost you anything to say ‘I would like to see this made’.
