Notes from Jack: 100 Words: Amazing Grain

Since the ‘ancient grain’ quinoa became the world’s most fashionable yuppie-chow last year the market price has risen to the point that the ‘ancient peoples’ of Bolivia, who have used it as a staple food for generations, can barely afford it themselves. This has caused their malnutrition rate to spike in areas of the Andes where the grain is cultivated, which in turn causes humanitarian groups funded by those same people who are eating the now popular vegetarian faire to feed those hungry people with GMO corn and rice which is produced in the U.S. and funded with government subsidies.
